Volunteer Commitment

From the beginning of the university’s planning process for returning students, faculty, and staff to campus this fall, creativity, compassion, and flexibility have been guiding principles. With safety as the foremost goal, the university altered classrooms, class schedules, housing and move in, orientation, and dining. Classroom technology was updated, new resources were added for students, and faculty members were trained to better teach online and hybrid classes. A health and safety campaign— bolstered by posters, digital signs, social media posts, and videos—urged people to mask up, spread out, check their health, wash their hands, and wipe down surfaces. Students, faculty, and staff on campus were given wellness kits with face coverings and hand sanitizer. And in true Volunteer spirit, 90,000 kits were made and distributed by members of the campus community. Also, more than $380,000 in private donations has been raised to support students in need of financial assistance through the Student Emergency Fund.
