For the second year in a row, music students have had the opportunity to work with a cappella master Avi Kaplan from the Grammy Award–winning group Pentatonix.
Kaplan visited campus in late January and worked with three UT vocal groups: the UT Singers, VOLume, and ReVOLution. High school groups from Seymour, Bearden, and a few surrounding states traveled to campus to take part in a one-day workshop with Kaplan and the School of Music.
Kaplan said he hopes to inspire both high school and college students in their musical journey. “If I can give them more tools to think about music in a different way, to help project their careers or project how they feel about music, then I’ve done my job.”
His visit was coordinated by Jacyln Johnson, the School of Music’s interim associate director of choral activities.
“Avi’s passion for music is absolutely palpable, and those who interact with him leave with a renewed sense of inspiration and determination,” Johnson said.
