Chancellor CheekUT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek encouraged students to view the ring as a symbol of their achievements thus far. He said the students should take pride in knowing that wearing the ring represents the passion they have for their university.

Proud friends and family snapped photographs as the dean from each student’s college presented them with their new ring.

This is a great step by UT! I am and MBA ’73 graduate of UT, but also a graduate of the US Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, Class of 1965. The graduates of the US Service Academies have a great class ring tradition; they proudly wear their class rings, and would fight any one to keep them. When the Air Force cadets receive their rings at their “ring dining in” they put them on their fingers with their Class Shield side closest to their heart. The day they graduate, they immediately turn their class rings around to display the traditional Shield of the Academy closest to their hearts…forever.

How is this first official ring different from the official UT ring I already have?
