If UT Accomplished Alumnus Woody Paige has his way, future NCAA championship women’s basketball teams will be hoisting the Summitt Trophy over their heads in celebration. Paige, a sports journalist and ESPN broadcaster, believes that it’s only fitting to name the trophy after UT’s Pat Summitt—the winningest basketball coach in NCAA history. (See Paige’s Big Idea video below.)
Megan Netland of Minneapolis, Minnesota, happens to agree with Paige. She started a campaign on Change.org to petition the NCAA for the exact same thing. The petition currently has more than 35,000 signatures. Supporters of the petition include Summitt’s former player Tamika Catchings and former WNBA star Lisa Leslie.
