Lois Oliver Sigler, of Memphis, died August 5, 2011. She earned a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Home Economics. She began her career as a high school home economics teacher in Buchanan, Virginia where she worked from 1944-1946. She then became the Area Supervisor of Home Economics Education and School Lunch Program, State Department of Education, Commonwealth of Virginia from 1946-1954. She was employed as the Assistant National Adviser, 1954-56, and then National Advisor, 1956-63, of Future Homemakers of America in Washington, D.C. She also served on President Eisenhower’s Advisory Committee on Youth Fitness and President Kennedy’s Food for Peace Council.
