The Millennium Focus Committee and the UT Knoxville offices of Alumni Affairs and Student Affairs hosted a weekend of events in May to support the Alex Haley Scholarship Fund.
On May 15, the celebrity reception and auction was highlighted by remarks from Condredge Holloway, former Vols quarterback, the first African American quarterback in the SEC, and assistant athletic director for student-athlete relations and lettermen. Holloway was presented with a House joint resolution from Governor Bill Haslam and the Tennessee General Assembly, recognizing him and other extraordinary athletes and individuals who have brought honor and distinction to the state of Tennessee.
The following morning, more than eighty players and celebrities teed off at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club to begin the Eighth Annual Alex Haley Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Alex Haley Scholarship.
