Celebrate 50 years of African American achievement by attending the eighth annual Alex Haley Scholarship Golf Weekend, which benefits minority students at UT. The scholarships were established to honor world-renowned author and UT professor Alex Haley.
The weekend will “tee off” with a celebrity reception and auction on Sunday, May 15, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Knoxville. The celebrity golf tournament will take place on Monday, May 16 at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf, and Country Club in West Knoxville. Check in is 7:30 a.m. with a start time of 8:30 a.m.
The annual event is the signature fundraising event for the Alex Haley Scholarships and is sponsored by the Millennium Focus Committee.
Stanley and Rhodelia Morgan, the chairs of the Millennium Focus Committee, helped establish the annual golf weekend and have worked to garner financial support to provide more than 100 scholarships to UT students. The Morgans are UT alumni and have displayed an amazing humanitarian spirit through their commitment to service in the UT community.
In 2004, the Morgans were recognized for their service and were awarded with UT’s highest honor as Volunteers of the Year. The Morgans’ commitment to service also extends to the community at large, where they serve as active volunteers with several nonprofit organizations.
