Margaret Elizabeth Long Chappell (1939)

Margaret Elizabeth Long Chappell, of Knoxville, died February 28, 2011. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. Margaret began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Hamblen County while she was still in her teens, each year alternating between teaching for six months and attending UT for six months. During WWII she was a Red Cross Recreation Director at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida and Long Beach, California. She later taught in Greenville, South Carolina and in the English department at Bearden High School in Knoxville.
