Notable Alumni: Murray Bowen (1934)

Murray Bowen (1934) was a pioneer in the field of family therapy. He was the first director of the Family Division at the National Institute of Mental Health. Later he joined the psychiatry department at Georgetown University and gained international recognition for his leadership in the field of family therapy. He established the Georgetown University Family Center in 1975. The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family at Georgetown is named in his honor.
