Young Alumni from all over Middle Tennessee gathered at the Sommett Center in Nashville on Thursday, March 5. Alums enjoyed a reception prior to the Nashville Predators matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. As part of the networking reception, Young Alumni were fortunate to hear from co-owner and chairman of the Predators, Dave Freeman.
Although Dave Freeman now has a very substantial role with one of the NHL’s newest hockey clubs, one of his most prized accomplishments is his degree from the University of Tennessee. Freeman frequently visits the Knoxville campus to work with MBA students as they train for a future in the national and international business world. Alumni were able to ask questions of Freeman after his presentation, and his inside information on the good, the bad, and the ugly of his hockey club intrigued many Young Alumni.
After the reception (during which alums also cheered on the basketball Vols as they fought the Gamecocks of South Carolina for the SEC Eastern Division title), attendees headed upstairs to the club level of the arena for premium seating during the game. Fortunately, the event came to a close successfully as the hometown Preds defeated the Blue Jackets, 4-2.
This event was the second UT Young Alumni event in Nashville in the past four months. In November, Nashville-area alums had a chance to hear from Dave Ramsey. Up next in Nashville? The Tennessee in Training program will have their weekly run each Saturday leading up to the Country Music Marathon on April 25.
