Phillip Moffitt was on campus in November and was recognized as part of the Accomplished Alumni program. Moffitt graduated with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UT. He served as student body president from 1967-68 and as assistant dean of students from 1969-70.

He was the CEO and editor-in-chief of Esquire magazine, rebuilding it into a successful publication. In 1987 Moffitt resigned from Esquire to immerse himself in spiritual life. He devoted himself to the study of Buddhism and was ordained as a lay priest in Theravada Buddhism. He now travels the country to teach about spirituality and balance. During his time on campus, Moffitt spoke to a group of student leaders and also facilitated a reading and book signing at Hodges Library.

Moffitt’s newest book is called Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering.
